Now Hiring: Executive Director


Cicero Action is seeking an experienced Executive Director to advance the organization’s government affairs efforts, set long-term government affairs strategy, and represent the organization externally to turn innovative ideas into policy. 

We are seeking an individual with experience lobbying state legislators, legislative staffers, and state executive branches to achieve policy outcomes. The individual should have a deep understanding of public policy, ideally with a basic understanding of health care, homelessness, regulatory reform, public safety, and higher education. They should be skilled at dealing with multiple high-priority projects at the same time and should enjoy engaging and interacting with a diverse array of individuals across several states daily in person, online, and via phone.

The Executive Director will be tasked with:

  1. Partnering with lead government affairs consultant as they manage state-level government affairs contractors and relationships with in-state partners
  2. Managing internal government affairs staff
  3. Working with leadership to determine target states and their priorities
  4. Ensuring the team and contractors are responsive to policymakers and lobbyists and they receive everything they need to succeed
  5. Signing off on research materials that are adapted to policy materials
  6. Developing and implementing state strategy and aligning it with broader Cicero priorities

Success will be measured by the number and impact of enacted reforms, the strength of relationships that lead to success, and increasing clarity on Cicero priorities and challenges.


An extensive familiarity with state legislative processes and knowledge of state policy issues. Strong written communication skills, political awareness, process management, adaptability, and the ability to recall details and share them with other stakeholders. Must also have attention to detail, professional appearance, the ability to listen, and a willingness to travel extensively, especially during legislative sessions.
